A Behind-the-Scenes Look at a Day at Our One-of-a-Kind Frail Care Facility

Riverside

Moving into a frail care facility is a challenging transition—for both our patients and their loved ones. But we’re here to make that transition as seamless as possible. If you or a loved one are at a stage in life where frail care is becoming a very real possibility, this blog is for you. What better way to ease your concerns than by painting a picture of what a day in our frail care centre looks like?

Frail Care Lounge

Our expert team provides 24/7 support, meaning our day starts long before our residents wake up. For them, the day begins with a gentle wake-up call. Our dedicated nursing staff, including our beloved Nursing Services Manager, Sister Cathy, and her amazing team, are ready to assist residents with all their needs. We prioritise personalised care, tailoring our approach to the specific requirements of each resident every day.

But this isn’t just a facility. We’re all about making sure you feel at home. That’s why each of our 18 private frail care rooms is not only equipped with a state-of-the-art medical bed and emergency button (all the bells and whistles), but also includes the comforts of home, such as a flatscreen TV and high-speed fibre internet. So yes, you won’t miss that cricket match!

Once our residents are up and ready for the day, they have the option of enjoying breakfast in their rooms or joining others in the dining area. While breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, at Riverside Manor, every meal matters. That’s why our experienced kitchen staff are masters at preparing delicious, well-balanced meals. Each dish is crafted to cater to the individual nutritional needs of our residents, including those with specific conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, or post-operative recovery.

After breakfast—and the best coffee in all of Sandton (a claim we’ve heard more than once from our residents)—it’s time for the fun stuff. In frail care, we understand the importance of mental stimulation, physical activity, and social engagement. Our residents can enjoy activities such as music sessions, bingo, movie days, and art classes. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, our landscaped gardens, bird hide, and social spaces offer peaceful environments for connecting with others or simply enjoying tranquillity.

We also arrange regular visits from healthcare specialists, including podiatrists, oral hygienists, physiotherapists, and geriatricians, ensuring all medical needs are met on-site. Regular exercise sessions keep our residents active, promoting mobility and independence whenever possible.

Our multi-disciplinary team of caregivers, led by Sister Cathy and supported by experienced nurses, physiotherapists, and medical staff, ensures that each resident receives personalised care. From administering medication to supporting rehabilitation after a stroke or trauma, our team tailors their approach to meet individual needs.

As evening settles in, our residents find comfort in their own way—whether enjoying a favorite show on TV or relaxing in the serene privacy of their rooms. With round-the-clock support and attentive care, our dedicated team ensures everyone is settled in for a restful and peaceful night. Because at Riverside Manor, care isn’t just what we do; it’s who we are.

Here, our residents are never just numbers—they’re family.
